Sports, Leisure and Tourism
The sport, leisure and tourism sector is a hugely important part sector to the Sheffield City Region’s economy. The sector employs over 50,000 people and generates an economic value of over £800m for the City Region.
The City Region hosts global festivals, sports institutes, championship football, and is home to one of the world’s greatest race courses together with stately homes, walking trails and medieval history. The region has also been successful in attracting a number of national sports federations, creating further growth in this sector.
The Sheffield City Region’s aim for this sector is to develop the region’s reputation as a world-class destination for sports and leisure, while growing the tourism economy to create jobs and wealth.
