Growth Hub celebrates successful third year

It offers impartial business support for all businesses across the Sheffield City Region (SCR).
And the SCR Growth Hub has certainly had plenty cause to celebrate as it marked its third birthday.

Over the past three years, the Growth Hub’s team of Advisors, dedicated Business Growth Specialists and partners have supported approximately 10% of all businesses across the region, providing them with impartial advice and support to grow.

The team of Business Growth Specialists has a wide breadth of experience, and is able to provide bespoke advice on issues such as skills, leadership, innovation, investment and exporting – to name just a few.

The Growth Hub is designed to enable businesses across the Sheffield City Region to get the support they need to thrive.

Over the past year alone, the team has held more than 80 Masterclasses across the region, supporting businesses with their training needs and business development needs, from using computer software to providing management training.

This year, to help businesses prepare for the UK’s exit from the European Union, they launched their Brexit Planning Tool. The tool enables business owners to carry out a self-assessment which helps them understand the potential ongoing impacts for their organisation.

Last month, they also launched their new look Skills Bank, that puts employers from across the region in charge of their own skills and training.

Skills Bank, delivered by Calderdale College, is a business led programme developed by the Local Enterprise Partnership and using devolved government funding, matches private sector investment with public funding to help businesses invest in their workforce and improve their productivity. Funding is available to businesses that make a strong case for how the investment will deliver growth.

David Grimes, Head of the Sheffield City Region Growth Hub, said: “It certainly has been a busy year for the Growth Hub. The team have been working hard ensuring that we are on hand for businesses across the region to provide them with the help, support and advice they need to grow their business.

“We have more than 68,000 businesses across the region and to have supported approximately 10% of those in the past three years is a phenomenal achievement.

“We are exceptionally proud of the work we have done this year, including developing the Brexit Planning Tool. Currently, no one knows what the impacts of leaving the EU will have on the UK, but we are determined to ensure that our businesses have all the support, guidance and advice they need to prepare themselves.

“I’m certainly looking forward to the year ahead and supporting more of our business to grow and thrive. There’s a huge amount of support available in the region, and every business is unique. We want all businesses to get in touch to find out how we could support them.”

Clive Waddington MD Archaeological Research Services, said: It’s been a pleasure working with Sheffield City Region Growth Hub to propel expansion at Archaeological Research Services Ltd and we wish the Hub a happy third birthday as it continues to support us and further businesses in the region.”

Professor Keith Jackson, Chair, IoD South Yorkshire, said: “The IoD and Growth Hub have worked collaboratively together over the last three years, ensuring our members in the SCR are fully aware of all the support and resources available to them and their businesses, and we’re looking forward developing our relationship and supporting more regional businesses together in the future.”
