Sheffield City Region Energy Strategy – Stakeholder Engagement Workshop

Event Venue and Description – Showroom Workstation, 15 Paternoster Row, Sheffield

The Sheffield City Region (SCR) Mayoral Combined Authority has been developing an Energy Strategy to set the direction to become a low carbon economy.  Following analysis carried out by the Carbon Trust in 2018, work has been ongoing to make the Energy Strategy more specific to the strengths and requirements of the City Region.  SCR is now at a stage where the draft Energy Strategy can be shared with stakeholders to gain their views.  Questions that the SCR would like feedback on include:

  • Has a suitable amount of evidence been analysed to allow conclusions to be drawn?  If no, are you able to provide suitable evidence or analysis?
  • Are there any gaps in understanding or knowledge?
  • Are there any regional strengths that have been overlooked?
  • Should a technology agnostic approach be taken, or should certain technologies be preferred over others?

SCR understands that the City Region sits within a wider landscape of climate deterioration and global warming.  Sheffield City Council (SCC) have recently declared a Climate Emergency and set a net-zero carbon date of 2030.  The Energy Strategy will be structured around a central carbon budget for Sheffield City Region which accounts for SCC’s ambitions as well as those other constituent members and will be given at the event.  An important part of the discussion on the day will be around the tangible targets that could be modelled to understand which pathway(s) can be taken to net-zero and form an integral part of the progress monitoring.
