How you can help tackle climate change and congestion

Event Venue and Description – Online

Everyone has a role to play in helping to reduce carbon emissions, local businesses included.

As part of the wider UK net-zero target, the Sheffield City Region (SCR) aims to achieve a net-zero carbon economy by 2041. Transport is one of the biggest contributors of carbon emissions and carbon reduction within the transport sector is a key focus of the SCR. To ensure we reach our target, we need to change the way we think about and use transport.

One of the ways that businesses can help is by changing their behaviour through Travel Demand Management (TDM). TDM refers to various strategies and policies that change travel behaviour to reduce travel demand or encourage more efficient use of transport resources.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Highways England identified the M1 between Junctions 33 and 34 as a key location to run a TDM trial due to its regular congestion. While the pandemic has understandably had an impact on traffic patterns, the easing of lockdown restrictions provides an opportunity to carry out initiatives that could help mitigate the return of congestion on this stretch of the motorway. More information about TDM and this trial can be found below.

Join Highways England, the Chamber and a panel of speakers to explore:

  • SCR’s plans for decarbonisation
  • Highways England’s plans for TDM and congestion on our highways
  • opportunities for businesses adopting TDM
  • how your business can take part in a trial
