How has Training Changed for Manufacturing and Cast Metal Industry?

Event Venue and Description: The Sheffield College, Granville Road, Sheffield

Due to the highly skilled nature of the Manufacturing Sector, there has always been difficulty in developing and attracting new talent to the industry. This workshop ran by The Elite Centre for Manufacturing Skills (ECMS) will help to provide companies with realistic training options for how best to attract new talent to their workforce, as well as providing further training to their existing staff.

Through extensive consultation with professional bodies the Institute of Cast Metals Engineers (ICME), Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM) and Cast Metals Federation (CMF), the ECMS National Foundry Training Centre was formed focusing on training in foundry/metal casting and patternmaking and is the first of its kind in the UK. The unique facility includes:

  • A fully-equipped training foundry
  • Modern melting furnaces
  • Moulding and casting equipment
  • Patternshop
  • Design suite
  • Laboratories for Quality Assurance
  • Mechanical testing

The event is open to all manufacturing and cast metal industry companies.

ECMS will provide an introduction to the new Apprenticeship Standards for the Cast Metals Industry highlighting key areas such as;

  • New foundry training apprenticeships standards
  • Model of delivery
  • Accommodation and safeguarding measures
  • Funding support and apprenticeship levy update
