How Employment Law can impact your new business

Event Venue and Description – Business and IP Centre Sheffield, Surrey Street, Sheffield

If you are beginning to think about starting a business of if you have started a business, it is important to be aware of how employment law can impact on you.  As a new business, the last think you want is an employment dispute setting you back or taking your time away from your business – whether this is from your former employer or with any staff you choose to take on.

The workshop will cover:

  • Things to consider if you are still in employment while setting up your business, including duties of commitment, loyalty and confidentiality towards your existing employer
  • The impact of restrictive covenants or post termination restrictions in your contract of employment, on your ability to start a new business, i.e. what limitations there may be on you working in competition with your employer or in working with your former contacts, suppliers or clients
  • Working with staff – do you want an employee, a contractor, casual workers – the differences between these and your obligations in engaging into a working relationship with them
  • Data Protection (GDPR) obligations in relation to staff details, mailing lists, customer details etc.
  • Discrimination law and how this affects you as a business in the context of employing staff and providing services to the public
