‘Enter Queen’s Awards’ urges Growth Hub head

The next round of the prestigious Queen’s Awards for Enterprise closes for applications in September, and today David Grimes, Head of the Growth, urged  all Sheffield City Region businesses to enter.

“We in the Growth Hub are very proud that we have been working with Hothouse Partnerships, which won an award this year for outstanding growth in international sales over the last three years. The Sheffield City Region Growth Hub has also been working with Central Wire Industries, (CWI) the high-value steel manufacturing firm based in Rotherham, which also won the award for growth in exports”.

The awards are free to enter, and companies can apply for more than one of the four categories: Innovation, International Trade, Sustainable Development, and Promoting Opportunity through Social Mobility. Entries must be made online by midday on Wednesday 12th September.

Ten of the 26 companies winning Queen’s Awards in Yorkshire and Humber in 2018 in the Yorkshire and Humber region are from the Sheffield City Region.

The team at Barnsley-based Hothouse Partnerships collected their Queen’s Award at Buckingham Palace from Prince Charles in June and co-founder Mel Brownlow said it had been a ‘fantastic’ experience. Hothouse Partnerships develops, manufactures and distributes beauty products.

Meanwhile Central Wire Industries, which won its award thanks to its outstanding growth of over 92% in export sales in just three years, primarily to Saudi Arabia and the oil and gas sectors, was also delighted. President Paul From  flew in from Canada to attend a reception marking the award.

CWI is a world leader in the wire-drawing industry and is now working with the Sheffield City Region and its international investment experts to work out ways to increase production.
