Virtual Business Support – Education and Skills

Event Venue and Description – Webinar

Join this supportive Q&A session to find out more about the newly announced Kickstart Scheme and £1.6billion investment in boosting worksearch, skills and apprenticeships.

Sue Taylor from ALPS will talk you through what this means and will be there to answer your questions together with a representative from the Department of Work and Pensions. You will also hear from Nicola Morgan, Learning and Development Manager at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, who will share her experience with apprentices and their policies going forward. This session will be hosted by Sonali Parekh, FSB Policy Director.

On 8 July The Chancellor of the Exchequer delivered his Summer Economic Update which outlined a package of measures to support jobs in every part of the country, give businesses the confidence to retain and hire, and provide people with the tools they need to get better jobs.

Key points included:

  • Kickstart Scheme: A new £2 billion scheme will be launched to create hundreds of thousands of new, fully subsidised jobs for young people across the country. Those aged 16-24, claiming Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment, will be eligible. Funding available for each six-month job placement will cover 100% of the National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week – and employers will be able to top this wage up.
  • Boosting worksearch, skills and apprenticeships: A total of £1.6 billion will be invested in scaling up employment support schemes, training and apprenticeships to help people looking for a job.

Expert Sue Taylor from the Association of Learning Providers Surrey (ALPS) will take you through how you can engage with these new initiatives. She will take you through the key headlines which include the new Kickstart Scheme, Traineeships and Apprenticeships and the support that will be needed by employers for those young people who are not in education or training (NEET). There are incentives for employers to engage with these programmes and Sue will explain these in detail to you.
