Sourcing Talent: How to Find, Select and Keep the Best Graduates (Sheffield)

Date: Thursday 31 January 2019
Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm
Venue: Sheffield City Region Growth Hub, S1 2BQ

Whether you’re successful at recruiting graduates or completely new to the world of graduate recruitment, this Masterclass will share the best ways to attract and recruit in the early-careers candidate market.

Taking insights from corporate employers, the third sector and SMEs, we will show you how small and medium-sized businesses can use their size to their advantage and compete with big businesses to attract top graduate talent.

Though the Masterclass will primarily focus on attracting top-calibre graduates to your business, we will also discuss selection methods and how to develop and retain your graduate employees.

The Masterclass will cover graduate recruitment in all sectors, from Engineering to IT, Marketing to Fundraising, and everything in between.

What are the benefits to my business?

You can expect a hands-on Masterclass that will utilise real case studies and give you some useful resources to take back to your business. Taking a knowledge-sharing approach, we will help you answer some common questions in graduate recruitment, based around attraction, selection and retention of graduates.

  • Why hire graduates? The graduate skillset, misconceptions and opportunities
  • What graduates want, and what you should pay them
  • Working effectively with universities
  • Writing attractive job adverts
  • Application forms, video interviews, assessment centres, work-sample tests or interviews – selection methods that will maximise success
  • Developing and keeping your graduates using appraisals, L&D, stretch projects and mentoring.

Who is leading it?

The workshop will be facilitated by Gabi Binnie, Project Consultant with Gradconsult, an independent consultancy that specialises in graduate recruitment and employability.

Gabi has substantial experience recruiting and developing graduates across a broad range of businesses, from SMEs to large national corporates. She currently manages RISE SCR, a corporate-style graduate recruitment programme for SMEs across the Sheffield City Region, and has screened and assessed hundreds of graduates across a huge spectrum of disciplines, from Engineering to Digital Marketing.

Gabi also works closely with SMEs across the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire regions to assist them with attraction, selection and retention of students and graduates; and is studying for a Master’s degree in Occupational Psychology.

Who is the Masterclass for?

The Masterclass is for all growing SMEs in the Sheffield City Region that want to, or are already, hiring graduates. It is equally suited to a HR professional within an SME, as to an expert Marketer/Analyst/Engineer/etc who has been tasked with bringing new talent into their business.
