Metamaterials: from Health to Energy (online)
Metamaterials are 3D structures engineered to have properties, in response to input such as light, mechanical forces or sounds, that are not possible with only their unstructured constituent materials. Metamaterial families include acoustic, photonic, and mechanical metamaterials.
Metamaterials are increasingly being developed for industrial applications, for instance with applications in defence, space, health and sports. This webinar, hosted by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL)’s Manufacturers Measurement Network in partnership with the UK Metamaterials Network, will give an introduction to metamaterials, outline examples where metamaterials can play a role across multiple sectors, and highlight the role of metrology in enabling innovation of new materials such as metamaterials.
