A guide to forthcoming changes in the way that businesses interact with HMRC and how this is likely to require many small businesses to rethink and change the way they keep their accounting books and records. The session will also look at further benefits of moving away from manual books, spreadsheets, and desktop accounting software packages to more innovative, user friendly, and powerful cloud based applications to help them exercise better control over their finances.

This Masterclass will cover:

  • What is cloud based accounting?
  • How can it help me with MTD?
  • What are the other benefits for my business?

What are the benefits to my business?

Businesses attending the Masterclass will:

  • Being aware of the forthcoming changes that will affect businesses under MTD
  • Becoming aware of the potential of cloud based accounting packages and how they can benefit the business.
  • Becoming aware of how accessible and user-friendly cloud based accounting packages are

Who is leading it?

The session will be led by Paul Wormald. Paul joined Hawsons in 2001 after qualifying with a local firm of accountants and then gaining further experience with two national firms.

He works with clients of differing sizes in the Doncaster office and in a number of sectors including construction, civil and general engineering, haulage and rail, assisting them with practical business and tax advice. Paul also heads up our Charity services in the Doncaster office, and has helped develop our cloud accounting services for the firm.

Paul sits on the firm’s technical standards committee and helps clients where more specialist reporting is required such as Charities and Grant Monitoring.

Away from the office, Paul has a keen interest in sport including cricket, football, rugby (both codes), and races regularly for Rossington Wheelers Cycling Club.

Who is the Masterclass for?

This Masterclass is for all growing SMEs within the Sheffield City Region, as long as the below eligibility criteria is met.

Aimed primarily at small businesses who are currently keeping manual books, spreadsheet based books, or on a desktop package.

A/ There is free parking available. There is also a regular bus from central Doncaster.

Q/ I would like to bring a colleague, is this ok?

A/ No, only one attendee per company is permitted.

Q/ Will refreshments be provided?

A/ Hot and cold refreshments will be provided.

Eligibility

Only one registration per business via Eventbrite will be confirmed. If additional people from your business would like to attend, they can be added to a waiting list by emailing enhancementproject@sheffieldcityregion.org.uk with the business name, name of additional attendee and contact telephone number. If this Masterclass isn’t fully subscribed upon the closure of registrations, we will contact you to offer the additional place. The waiting list will be prioritised on a first come first served basis. Businesses that register more than one attendee via Eventbrite will be contacted and asked to nominate one person to attend.

This Masterclass is open to small and medium-sized enterprises based in the Sheffield City Region. If you are unsure whether you fall into this region you can use the postcode checker.

A part of your business must be based in one of the following districts: Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Dales, Doncaster, North East Derbyshire. Rotherham or Sheffield.

Please note that if your firm that is part of a larger Group you may need to include staff headcount, turnover, balance sheet data for the Group too, to ascertain whether it is eligible.

We are pleased to be able to provide this masterclass free of charge due to funding from the European Regional Development Fund. There are a number of eligibility criteria for attendees which we will check using the online registration questions and in a phone call to every attendee prior to the event.
