Cyber security masterclass for small businesses

Learn how to minimise the risk of cyber attacks, keep business operating and keep data safe.

About this event

Businesses are benefiting from the use of laptops, smartphones, and IoT devices which are connected to a wireless network. With all these devices connected to a single internet access point, Wi-Fi network security is critical to protect the businesses’ devices from any cyber breaches. Poor cyber hygiene could negatively affect an organisation’s ability to function, reputation and legal obligations to keep personal data safe.

Who is it for:

Anyone interested in ensuring their business system network is secure, minimising the risk of cyberattacks, keeping business, client and supplier data safe. The session will cover:

• Password security

• Employee access

• Firewalls

• Anti virus set up

• Good data back up

• Mobile connections

• Secure Wi-Fi gateway router

• Hardware management

• Top cyber threats and mitigation against attacks

This is a practical, guided session and attendees will need to bring a lop top to the event.

The programme is available for SMEs across Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster, and Rotherham, as well as Chesterfield, North-East Derbyshire, Derbyshire Dales, Bolsover, and Bassetlaw.

What will I leave with:

• The knowledge to secure system networks

• The knowledge to mitigate the risk of cyber attacks

• Improved security awareness of on-line services

• A more secure lap top

While at the workshop, you’ll learn about our Digital Innovation for Growth Programme – free 12 hours of access to our prototyping workspace in the MakerLab, and the opportunity to work with Sheffield Hallam University’s academic experts.
