Cyber Security: Data Protection and Cybercrime (Barnsley)

This Masterclass, hosted by AAG IT Services and presented by ThinkMarble, is a must-attend in which a Live Hack will be undertaken by an Ethical Hacker to demonstrate the importance of undergoing regular penetration testing, and guidance on the next steps that any organisation needs to undertake to stay as secure as possible.

The live hack is the exploitation of an IT system, with the permission of its owner, in order to determine its vulnerabilities and weaknesses and the hacker will demonstrate results of the hacking which will identify the easy penetration points a malicious hacker can take advantage of.

We will also be joined by a data protection lawyer who will answer some of the most common questions around data protection law, such as ‘Who needs a Data Protection Officer (DPO)?’, and ‘Why is it beneficial to appoint an external DPO?’.

What are the benefits to my business?

Your business will gain a clearer understanding of how Cybercrime is exploiting businesses’ vulnerabilities and you will learn how to defend against the evolving threats from hackers who could create a potentially devastating effect on your business. You will also be informed on the latest data protection law and its requirements and why you should appoint a data protection officer.

Who is leading it?

Robert Wassall – Robert is an expert in data protection law with more than 30 years’ experience in the legal profession, mostly as a Partner in major regional law firms. He is now the ‘Director of Legal Services’ at ThinkMarble, overseeing the delivery of the virtual Data Protection Officer service. Robert acts as vDPO for several organisations including, a Premier League football club, an internationally famous chocolate manufacturer, a pharmaceutical PLC and a City based international commodities dealer. Robert is a member of NADPO (National Association of DP and FOI Officers) and the society for computers and the law.

Andy Miles – Andy has more than 20 years’ experience in both FTSE 100 and SME companies. He was a General Manager for BT Plc. managing an over £200 million division as well as driving performance at a host of smaller private firms. He has also implemented new technologies with the British Transport Police, including delivering and managed CEOP portal (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre). Andy’s experience covers security, operations, technical and business transformation. He advises at board level, ensuring businesses have the right technology and strategy in place to succeed. Always hands-on, he challenges the status quo so clients get the highest levels of service from both their IT service providers, and IT departments as well as the best contractual terms. Andy is a member of both the Information Systems Section Association (ISSA) and other key Information Security forums.

Eligibility

Only one registration per business via Eventbrite will be confirmed. If additional people from your business would like to attend, they can be added to a waiting list by emailing enhancementproject@sheffieldcityregion.org.uk with the business name, name of additional attendee and contact telephone number. If this Masterclass isn’t fully subscribed upon the closure of registrations, we will contact you to offer the additional place. The waiting list will be prioritised on a first come first served basis. Businesses that register more than one attendee via Eventbrite will be contacted and asked to nominate one person to attend.

This Masterclass is open to small and medium-sized enterprises based in the Sheffield City Region. If you are unsure whether you fall into this region you can use the postcode checker.

A part of your business must be based in one of the following districts: Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Dales, Doncaster, North East Derbyshire. Rotherham or Sheffield.

Please note that if your firm that is part of a larger Group you may need to include staff headcount, turnover, balance sheet data for the Group too, to ascertain whether it is eligible.

We are pleased to be able to provide this masterclass free of charge due to funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
