A recent TUC survey found that one in six mothers – mainly those on the lowest pay – had to reduce their hours at work as a direct result of school and childcare closures, with some forced out of the workplace altogether.

Separate research by Working Families found that one in five working parents felt they had been treated less fairly at work because of their childcare responsibilities since the onset of COVID-19.
