If you’re a hospitality or leisure business in South Yorkshire, or a business that has seen a reduction in turnover due to local or national restrictions, you may be eligible for financial support.
On 21st December 2021, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors in England will be eligible for one-off grants of up to £6,000 per premises, plus more than £100 million discretionary funding will be made available for local authorities to support other businesses.
South Yorkshire’s local authorities will be distributing the grant funding to businesses and self-employed people across the region to support them through COVID restrictions.
More information on the grants and the application process will be available soon and we are recommending businesses to monitor their local authority websites for the most up to date information.

The Omicron Hospitality and Leisure grant funding is to support businesses that are experiencing difficulties because of the Omicron variant, and the dual impact of staff absences and lower consumer demand.
Recipients must be solvent businesses, and ratepayers in the hospitality and leisure sector. For example, a pub; hotel; restaurant; bar; cinema; or amusement park. Grants are per premises and the amount paid is varied by rateable value (RV) of each eligible premises, in three bands:
- £0-15k – there is a £2.7k grant available
- £15-51k – there is a £4k grant available
- over £51k – there is a £6k grant available
The Chancellor also announced the Statutory Sick Pay Rebate scheme (SSPRS) which allows small and medium sized employers to claim the costs of up to two weeks of COVID-related SSP. To find out more about these changes, read the factsheet here.
The Additional Restrictions Grant top-up will be administered through each local authority at their discretion. To find out more about this funding scheme, businesses should keep an eye on their local authority’s website, to confirm their eligibility. This may vary for each local authority.
