Building an Effective Team, Successful Communication and Engagement (Doncaster)

Building teams is an essential role for managers. It is an easy thing to talk about but is difficult to accomplish, however, there is an established process that facilitates this part of the manager’s role and accelerates the learning curve for building team skills and collaboration.
This masterclass will look at theory, models and practice to offer different perspectives on how to develop effective teams. This will include exploring how teams form and develop and understanding the skills of influencing and communicating to improve engagement.
Delegates will leave with practical tools that can be used to develop and enhance their learning back in their own workplace.

 

This masterclass compliments the ‘Basic Business Planning and Performance Monitoring‘ and ‘Personal Leadership and the Responsibilities of a Manager‘ masterclasses.

The masterclass will cover:

  • What makes a team effective and how to increase performance, looking at some recognised models and research What we mean by communication and engagement and why it is important
  • Exploring a range of tools to enhance levels of engagement and communication
    Identifying when to use different engagement strategies and how to use them to improve team work and communication
  • How teams form and work together effectively and the manager’s role in this process

Session format:

  • Welcome and introduction: discussion on required outcomes (including attendees’ personal outcomes)
    Team formation: demonstration of models and discussion, research, group work, including facilitator input
  • Feedback and insights: group sharing
  • Communication and engagement: discussion, introduction to models, tools, theory and research, group work, self-reflection and sharing in pairs/trios including facilitator input
    Feedback and insights: group sharing
  • Engagement and communication strategies: practical application, questionnaire, self-reflection and group work including facilitator input
  • Feedback and insights: group sharing

Who is the masterclass for?

This Masterclass is for all growing SMEs within the Sheffield City Region, as long as the below eligibility criteria is met.

These Masterclasses are designed for those who have taken on a management role for the first time or who aspire to do so. They will be equally useful for managers who have been in their role for some time and would like to refresh their skills and knowledge.

They are suitable for managers working in all business sectors.

Only one registration per business via Eventbrite will be confirmed. If additional people from your business would like to attend, they can be added to a waiting list by emailing enhancementproject@sheffieldcityregion.org.uk with the business name, name of additional attendee and contact telephone number. If this Masterclass isn’t fully subscribed upon the closure of registrations, we will contact you to offer the additional place. The waiting list will be prioritised on a first come first served basis. Businesses that register more than one attendee via Eventbrite will be contacted and asked to nominate one person to attend.

This masterclass is open to small and medium-sized enterprises based in the Sheffield City Region. If you are unsure whether you fall into this region you can use the postcode checker.

A part of your business must be based in one of the following districts: Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Dales, Doncaster, North East Derbyshire. Rotherham or Sheffield.

Please note that if your firm that is part of a larger Group you may need to include staff headcount, turnover, balance sheet data for the Group too, to ascertain whether it is eligible.

We are pleased to be able to provide this masterclass free of charge due to funding from the European Regional Development Fund. There are a number of eligibility criteria for attendees which we will check using the online registration questions and in a phone call to every attendee prior to the event.
